What's the story?

Part of the job back home. I'm simplifying it, but I essentially track down people who create viruses that make monsters. Doctors, oftentimes hired by authority figures.

Narcissism is practically a requirement.

For... Earth's US government?

That's right.

... Do you like working for them?

[leonheartedly]

Hah . . . it's complicated.

Short answer is that I like what I do. I'd be doing something like it no matter what.

[he smiles briefly]

I get to tell the kids here that I'm essentially a secret agent. Earn myself some cool points.

[he snorts softly]

You went into the mist, faced a ram demon and got out without a scratch, even without powers. That's pretty cool.

[from the way he says it, it's almost like he's not really heard that before. He shrugs a little awkwardly]

To be fair, I got out because of you. I'm nowhere near that fast.

[ chuckles briefly ]

Right. Well, you're doing a good job here too.

It can't have been easy watching Crois lose his pasture memories.

I'm trying. It's all I can do.

[we won't get into whether he thinks he's succeeding or not]

. . . no, but it doesn't matter. He got them back and he's even more annoying than he was before. [he says it fondly, though]

... You know, I get where you're coming from. I'd say the same in your place. But do you ever find it weird how many people here would say their own struggles don't matter, as long as an end goal is reached?

It's not charming at all.

[but he doesn't answer right away. His arms cross and he frowns a little in thought before he shrugs a shoulder]

I can't say I've given it a lot of thought. But I also haven't spoken to a lot of people about that, either.
