Freezing is when the temperature hits 0 C/32 F, so plan accordingly.
Make sure your barns are insulated; this will require a Rite. You should also consider heating of some kind; central heating, space heaters, a fireplace, wood-burning stove - any of these will work.
To prevent your pipes from bursting when temperatures outside are freezing, let one of your faucets drip. Make sure you turn both knobs.
Keep the doors to unused rooms closed, and use a towel or an extra blanket to block the bottom of the door to keep drafts from getting in. Do this for the front entrance at night.
Rugs make a difference, too.
Cooking, baking, and boiling water all provide heat. Slow-cook meals are great for this.
If you opt for a fireplace/have one already, keep it shut when not in use.
If it ices over around your barn, throw down salt or sand so you don't slip.
Make sure you stay hydrated. You can and will dehydrate in the cold if you aren't careful.
Wear layers. Easier to remove/add those.
Socks.
Stay dry. Don't wear so many layers that you start sweating, you lose body heat faster when you're cold and wet.
Hot water bottles. Stick one at the end of your bed to stay warm while you're sleeping.
Use common sense and don't be afraid to ask for help.
